What should you consider when looking for a course in Non-Surgical Facial Aesthetics?

There are so many courses and programmes available in non-surgical facial aesthetics that it can often be difficult to decide which one to attend. This blog will help you think about the factors you should consider before making an investment in your training.

The first thing to consider is why do you actually want to attend a course. Generally speaking, the purpose for attending a course will typically fall into one of the following three scenarios:

Scenario 1

You have not had much or any exposure to cosmetic injectables and you would like to get a flavour of what is involved

Scenario 2

You have some experience/exposure to cosmetic injectables and are ready to embark in a career that heavily or exclusively involves non-surgical facial aesthetics

Scenario 3

You are an experienced practitioner and provision of cosmetic injectables contributes to a part or all of your clinical activity and you are attending a course for CPD purposes or to add a particular skill/technique/treatment area to your repertoire.

The next thing to consider is the type of courses available.

Normally courses fall into 2 categories; short courses and longer structured programmes (e.g. university-based programmes, PG Cert (Level 7) in Non-Surgical Facial Aesthetics by the College of General Dentistry etc). This table below outlines some of the factors that you should consider when making a decision about the kind of course you would like to attend, taking into the account the scenario (Scenario 1,2 or 3 described above) that you fall within.

We hope this helps you understand a bit more about what you should consider when selecting a course in cosmetic injectables. The "Competency Based" row has been highlighted in red because it is really important to understand this concept especially if you are planning to shift your career towards providing these treatments. We have written a blog to discuss this concept in more detail and explain the difference between competency and non-competency based programmes.
